ABOUT JOHN MOIRJohn Moir is an award-winning author and science journalist whose special interest is the loss of biodiversity across the planet. He has covered the condor recovery effort for years for newspapers and magazines. His feature article, "Bringing Back the Condor," was a cover story in the January/February 2005 issue of Birding magazine (the magazine of the American Birding Association). The article won First Place for nonfiction at the 2004 East of Eden Writing Conference at the National Steinbeck Center and eventually led to writing Return of the Condor. Moir has written on many topics and his articles (more than 100) have appeared in publications such as the Christian Science Monitor, San Francisco Chronicle, Birder's World, Audubon California, and elsewhere. He is author of the book Just in Case: Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Self Help (Chronicle Books). He also contributed to two other books: 2006 Writer's Market and The Best of Novel Advice. Moir has won 16 writing awards including recognition by the National Association of Science Writers for Return of the Condor. Moir works for the National Science Teachers Association as a staff writer and is also an independent science journalist. He is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the Author's Guild, the Society of Environmental Journalists, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and the Northern California Science Writers Association. Moir is a member of the American Birding Association and has traveled the world in search of birds. He is also a docent naturalist at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
